Welcome to our fun 10-step drawing tutorial! Today, we are going to learn how to draw a bee, a really cool insect!
Did you know that there are over 20,000 species of bees globally? Bees are also found all over the world, except for Antarctica. An average beehive can hold about 50,000 bees! Bees have been on the planet for about 30 million years.
Bees are pollinators, which are essential to agriculture. They pollinate fruits, vegetables, and more, making them important to many foods. This is, in part, why it is so important that humans protect bees.
Bees make honey, which humans use for a lot of different things. Honey can be used as a sweetener to bake cakes and in drinks like tea. Additionally, beeswax is made by some species of bees and also has many applications.

How to Draw a Bee — Let’s get started!
Step 1 – Draw the bee’s head.
Draw a large circle about two-thirds of the way up the page. This is the bee’s head! Leave some space above it for the next step.
Step 2 – Add the antennae!
Let’s draw the antennae! Antennae help with bee’s data collection tools for touch, taste, and smell. Did you know that nearly all insects have antennae to help them sense the world around them? You’ll see antennae in our other insect tutorials like the butterfly one!
Draw two short lines coming out from the top of the head. At the top of each line, draw a small circle.
Step 3 – Draw the bee’s face!
Let’s draw a face on our bee! Draw two small dots in the middle of the head for the eyes. Eyesight is very important for a bee’s survival.
We want to make our bee happy, so draw a small curve to form a smile.
Step 4 – Add the body of the bee.
Underneath the head, draw the body of the bee! This is also called the abdomen. Draw an oval that is a bit narrower than the head. It should be several inches long.
Good job!
Step 5 – Add detail to the body of the bee!
Of course, bees are especially unique because of their beautiful stripes! We think bees evolved to have stripes as a form of protection. Let’s add that now.
On the body, draw four slightly curved lines to form a stripe pattern. Draw them horizontally across the body.
Step 6 – Draw the left wings.
Of course bees fly and so our bee needs wings! Bees actually have two pairs of wings that help them fly about twenty miles per hour.
In between the head and the neck on the left side, draw a sideways U shape. Right below it, do the same shape but a little bit smaller. These are the two wings on the left side. Check out the photo!
Step 7 – Draw the right wings.
This step is going to be basically the same thing as the last step but on the right side of the body. Draw two more sideways U shapes just like Step 6. Good job!
Step 8 – Draw the arms of the bee.
Let’s add arms to our bee! On either side of the body, draw two short lines. Add little dots at the end for hands. They should look like they are in front of the wings—refer to the photo.
Step 9 – Draw two legs!
Let’s add some feet next! Draw two slightly-curved lines at the bottom of the abdomen. Add little dots at the end to show the feet.
We’re almost done—we’ve just got one very fun step left.
Step 10 – Color in your bee!
Bees are normally thought of as yellow and black, but they can look more amber-colored, too. Different species have different looks to them. You can color your bee really however you want!
So, pick out any colors you want and have fun coloring in your bee. Fill in the background, too—maybe, if your bee is flying, you want to draw the sky in the background.
Pin it now, Draw later!
All done? Good job! Give your bee a name!
We hope you had fun following this tutorial and learned some interesting facts about bees. Many species of bees are endangered, so this is a great tutorial to share with friends so that they can learn a little bit about this cool insect!
