How to Draw a Bunny

Welcome to our fun tutorial on how to draw a bunny—one of the cutest animals!

Bunnies are so adorable. They are technically the same thing as rabbits, but often we use the word bunny to express extra cuteness.

Just like dogs and horses, bunnies can really bond with their human friends and show a lot of affection. The average lifespan for a bunny is about eight years, but the oldest bunny ever has lived to be 17! Also, we’re sure you’ve heard the common idea that bunnies can jump really well—this is not a myth! The adorable animals can jump over 3 feet high and 10 feet far!

So, let’s start our art project for today. Find a good drawing spot, find some materials, and keep reading below to learn how to draw a bunny! Happy drawing!

How to Draw a Bunny — Let’s get started!

Step 1 – Draw the bunny’s ears.

How to Draw a Bunny - Step 1 – Draw the bunny’s ears.

Of course, one of the most recognizable features of bunnies are their adorable ears! They are really tall and they do more than just help the furry critter to hear. They help maintain and regulate the animal’s body temperature, and they can also turn nearly an entire circle!

A few inches from the top of the page, draw the ears. They should each be upside down U shapes, but extra tall. Check out the photo! Draw them about an inch apart.

Step 2 – Continue drawing the bunny’s head.

We’re going to continue drawing the shape of the head in this step.

On the right side of the right ear, draw a small curve. On the left side of the left year, draw another one. Then, connect the gap in between the ears with a line. Good job!

Step 3 – Draw the bunny’s cheeks!

Continue drawing the head on both sides. These will form the cheeks, so make them a bit chubbier like they have a mouth full of food! Look at the photo.

Step 4 – Draw the eyes of the bunny.

In the middle of the head, draw two dots for the eyes!

Rabbits have good eyesight which helps them protect themselves from predators. Like many animals, their eyes are more towards the sides of their heads, meaning they can see behind themselves way better than us humans! Interestingly, bunnies also often sleep with their eyes open as a survival practice.

Step 5 – Add the nose and the mouth!

We’ve got to add the rest of the bunny’s face. In between the eyes, draw a small upside down triangle for the nose. Then, draw two lines that curve out and down to form the mouth!

Step 6 – Draw its arms!

In this step, we’re going to draw the arms. On either side of the face, draw two curves to show the arms. Our bunny is raising its hands up, and the arms should look like they are in front of the face. Refer to the photo to see how to draw the perspective!

Step 7 –  Draw the bunny’s belly.

Let’s add more to the shape of its body. Draw two vertical curves on each side—they should be extending down from the arms. Leave a few inches below to add the legs in the next step.

Step 8 – Add the bunny’s legs!

Let’s add the legs now—after all, bunnies are great jumpers so they need their legs! Draw two U-shapes at the bottom to show the legs. Good job!

Step 9 – Add a bit more detail.

Let’s finish off the body shape of the bunny. Draw a small line that connects the legs. Then, underneath the head, draw two short lines to indicate the chin. Look at the photo to see what we mean.

Good job! You’re almost done with this drawing tutorial.

Step 10 –  Color in your bunny rabbit!

Bunnies can be different colors—black, chestnut, orange, tan, fawn, white, and more! Have fun with this step. Does your bunny have a pattern on its fur or is it solid? Fill in the background, too!
