How to Draw a Coffee Shop — Let’s get started!

Step 1 – Draw the sign and roof.

How to Draw a Coffee Shop - Step 1 - Draw the sign and roof.

Begin by drawing a rectangle on the upper-right area of the paper. Make sure you leave plenty of room below for the rest of the drawing. This is the sign of your shop.

Next, create the roof around it. Do this by first drawing a long, skinny rectangle below the first rectangle. Then, add lines that slant upwards and inwards from the edges—this creates perspective to your drawing!

Step 2 – Fill in the storefront sign.

On the left side of the very first rectangle you drew, add a small coffee cup with a few curving lines rising above to symbolize a hot cup of coffee. Look at the reference photo for how to draw the cup.

Lastly, write the word “coffee” in the remaining space.

Step 3 – Add trim to the roof.

Draw a line formed by repetitive semi-circles below the roofline. This is the trim hanging down from the roof. It creates a warm, friendly look to the shop and adds some style!

Step 4 – Form the building, windows, and door.

How to Draw a Coffee Shop - Step 4 - Form the building, windows, and door.

In this step, we are going to form the shape of the shop itself!

To begin, create the main shape of the building by drawing a large box in the remaining area of the page. This should extend down from the sides of the roof, as shown in the photo.

Once you have the central rectangle, draw two rectangles within it: a vertical one on the left for the door and a horizontal one on the right for the storefront window.

Next, we will start to add some objects outside of the building. Add a small square below the window. Also, add a trapezoid-like shape on the outside of the building. Refer to the photo. (We’ll return to these later!)

Step 5 – Add detail to the door.

Above the door, draw a semi-circle. This is glass above the window!

Divide the semi-circle up with five slanting lines. They should converge at the top of the door.

Step 6 – Add (more) detail to the door!

In this step, we will create panes on the door. Draw a smaller rectangle inside the door. Next, divide it up into eight equal squares to form the panes.

Finish it off by adding a small circle on the middle right of the door. This is the door handle.

Step 7 – Draw objects in the window.

Let’s start with the menu on the left side of the window. Draw a slanted rectangle, and add another line behind it to create perspective, as shown in the photo. Add some lines in the rectangle to represent menu items.

Next, draw a cup of coffee. Do this by drawing a small oval for the top of the cup. Then, draw a semi-circle extending downwards to form the rest of the cup. Finish it by adding a small curved handle on the right. Do this again for another cup! Reference the photo.

Lastly, add a light by drawing a line extending from the top of the window. Draw a few small shapes at the end of the line to show a lightbulb.

Step 8 – Add a cactus out front!

Revisit the square you drew underneath the window in Step #4. This is a pot for a cactus!

Draw a long semi-circle to form the central part of the cactus. Next, add limbs to both sides of the cactus. Do this by drawing a horizontal line outward and then upwards, and then close the shape.

Step 9 – Add a plant next to the building.

Let’s add another plant to the setting!

In the trapezoid shape next to the building, draw a line extending upwards. Form another branch by adding another line slanting outwards. Then, of course, add some leaves all over the plant!

Step 10 – Color your coffee shop!

Last but certainly not least: coloring!

Personalize the coffee shop to your taste. Is it a pastel shop in a beach town? Is it a modern and chic coffee shop in a city? Give it some style with colors and even patterns. If you want, fill the rest of the page with more of the setting!

All done? We hope you’ve had fun doing this step-by-step guide for drawing a coffee shop. You can always repeat the tutorial if you want to create another shop! There is another slightly different building tutorial on the site—a gingerbread house—if you want to check that one out. Thanks for following along!
