Hello! You’ve found our easy-to-follow and fun drawing tutorial on how to draw a crown!
Crowns are precious items with a rich history. They have been around for thousands of years to indicate people of importance and symbolize power, wealth, and even glory. For example, in Classical times, crowns may have been worn by athletes, warriors, or even poets. However, many of us associate crowns with kings and queens. We know crowns were worn as far back as 2670 BCE in Egypt and are still used often! We also think of princes and princesses in our favorite cartoons and movies.
If you’ve ever seen a crown in person—such as in a museum—you know how sparkly and pretty they are! As you may know, Crowns are often made of precious metals and elaborately adorned with priceless jewels, making them very expensive and beautiful objects. Other cultures may use feathers or other materials to make versions of crowns. You can even make your own at home using materials you have, such as paper!
Anyways, enough talking—find some of your drawing materials, and let’s begin with this tutorial. Keep reading for Step 1!

How to Draw a Crown — Let’s get started!
Step 1 – Draw the top jewels.
As we mentioned, crowns often have jewels, so our drawing will, too! Draw three circles a few inches apart. The middle circle should be a little bit higher, as it will be the centerpiece of the crown.
Step 2 – Start drawing the outline of the crown.
Underneath the two outer circles representing jewels, draw two short slanted lines. They should slant inward. These form the outer edge of the crown. Check out the photo!
Step 3 – Add the top outline.
In this step, we will give the crown its fancy shape! Draw curves extending from each of the outer jewels to the center jewel. They should have a deep curve to them to make it look fancy! Check out the photo for this step.
Step 4 – Draw the bottom outline.
Finally, let’s finish the outline. Draw a slightly curved line that connects the slanted lines we drew in Step 2. Draw another one just below it that runs parallel. This shows the bottom rim of the crown that would sit on the head.
Good job!
Step 5 – Add more jewels!
We are going to make our crown super fancy, so of course, we need more jewels! Centered above the curves from Step 3, draw two small circles. In the next step, we will connect them to the rest of the crown.
Step 6 – Connect the jewels to the crown.
Draw two lines beneath each of the two new jewels. This will make the jewels look like they are at the top of the crown’s points, which is a common design in crowns. Check out the photo. Good job!
Step 7 – Add another jewel!
This time, we are going to add some jewels to the crown itself. Draw a diamond centered on the crown.
Step 8 – Add detail to the bottom.
Once again, we will add details in the form of jewels. Did you know that the Crown of England has roughly 2,800 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, 270 pearls, and 4 rubies? That’s a lot of glitz!
Let’s add more to our crown. Draw two smaller diamonds on either side of the one you just drew.
Step 9 – Add more detail to the bottom!
We’re almost done! This is basically the same step as Step 8—simply add two more diamonds to the crown. Great job!
Step 10 – Color in your drawing!
This is the best step. We need to color in our crown! Since crowns can have many different kinds of jewels like emeralds and rubies, there is no wrong way to color in your drawing. Have fun with it! What kind of gems are on your crown?
