How to Draw a Jaguar — Let’s get started!
Step 1 – Draw Jaguar’s Head
We will start this drawing tutorial by sketching the head. For this, you need to sketch a medium-sized oval near the top center of the page. Make sure it is evenly rounded and has a clean curve.
Step 2 – Add the Neck and Front Legs
This step in how to draw a jaguar is going to focus on sketching the neck, front body, and legs. Don’t get scared with this list. Because you only need to sketch a few basic shapes and lines here.
First, draw a small curved line at the bottom of the head to make the neck of your tiger.
After that, create a slightly curved line that bends in the inward direction. It will be the front body of your Jaguar.
End this curved line with a paw as we have done in the reference picture.
At last, draw two small curved lines in the front of the body. It should extend downward and then bend forward. End them with a claw too.
The legs should resemble an “L” shape. Make sure to keep the lines soft and rounded for drawing a cute jaguar picture.
Step 3 – Sketch the Belly and Hind Legs of Jaguar’s Body
Just like step 2, we have to do a lot of things in this step. But, I will keep the shapes simple and instructions straightforward. So, don’t worry.
The first thing you need to draw is a slightly tilted horizontal line starting from the front leg. It will make the belly.
Now, you need to make a pair of hind legs that are similar to the front legs. Sketch the first “L” shape at the end of the horizontal line. Make sure that its lines are highly tilted in the outward direction, as shown in our picture.
Finally, add another “L” shape just near the hind leg.
Remember: The legs of a jaguar should be thick from where they connect the body. Gradually, it should start getting thin and end with a paw.
Step 4 – Complete the Jaguar’s Body
This is the last step in completing the outline of the jaguar’s body.
For this, you have to draw a straight horizontal line that is tilted a bit in the downward direction. Start this line from the head as shown in the reference picture.
At the end of this line, draw a playful curved tail that will be connected to the hind legs. Make sure that the tail is thick in the beginning and starts getting thin gradually.
End the tail with a soft, playful curve that gives a fun personality to your cartoon jaguar.
Step 5 – Sketch the Ears
Phew! The difficult tasks are done and now it is time for playful and easy steps. You can start your favorite music and podcast in the background now to enjoy your jaguar’s drawing.
In this step, draw the ears of the jaguar. For this, sketch two small semi-circles or “C” shapes at the top of the head. Each semicircle should be positioned slightly right and left on the head.
Step 6 – Make Your Jaguar’s Drawing Aesthetic
We are going to make your cartoon jaguar drawing cute with some detailing.
For this, add small “C” shapes in the ears to make it realistic.
Now, add an oval shape at the lower end of your jaguar’s face. This shape will be the foundation of your jaguar’s facial features.
Then, add a curved line where the tip of the tail starts. At last, add the similar curved lines where the jaguar’s paws’ shapes start.
Step 7 – Add Fine Body Spots
Get relaxed because this step is going to take a while. Jaguars are famous for the fine body spots that make them quite intriguing. So, this drawing is incomplete without them.
Draw a few body spots on the face and the belly of the jaguar. These spots could be in different irregular shapes and sizes, resembling blobs and broken circles. You could add as much as you want but make sure not to overpopulate the jaguar’s body.
Step 8 – Add Facial Features
Kids’ jaguar painting is incomplete without a friendly smile. For this, you have to draw a few cute facial features.
Start with two small circles that are just above the oval shape of the Jaguar’s mouth. Darken the circles and add a white dot to them.
In the oval of the mouth, add a small rounded triangle for the nose. Darken it a bit to make your drawing cute. Beneath it, add two curved lines that are connected with it. These lines should resemble the smile.
That’s it! Your jaguar painting is complete. But wait, we still need to make it playful. For this, coloring is the best option.
Step 9 – Coloring The Jaguar’s Body
Grab the yellow, brown, and golden colors to make your jaguar cute. You can see the end product in our picture.
But, if you want to do something unique, you could go with different coloring mediums. Like, you could color your jaguar in black by using acrylic paints. Dark acrylic colors could give a quite intriguing look to your jaguar.
Otherwise, you could go with watercolors for softer hues.
