How to Draw a Jellyfish — Let’s get started!
Step 1 – Draw the Base of the Bell
Jellyfish don’t have any heads. In fact, it has a bell and tentacles because it is an invertebrate. It means this creature doesn’t have any backbone.
To make the base of the bell, you need to draw an arc or semicircle. Draw it in the center of the page, and make sure that this arc is smooth and symmetrical.
Step 2 – Start the Bottom Edge of the Bell
Now, you need to draw the bottom edge of the jellyfish’s bell. For this, draw a wavy line, connecting both ends of the arc.
The curves in this line should be evenly spaced and consistent. It will give a soft, flowing appearance to the body.
Step 3 – Complete the Bottom Edge of the Bell
It is time to complete the bottom edge of the Jellyfish’s bell. For this, draw another wavy line that is parallel to the first line and is connected to it. The curves in this line should mirror the first one.
That’s it! Your jellyfish’s bell is completed. It should resemble an umbrella with a wavy edge.
Step 4 – Draw the First Tentacle
The next steps are going to be pretty simple and fun. So, kick back and relax. Start your favorite music or podcast in the background and initiate sketching the first of many tentacles.
By the way, these tentacles are a crucial part of the jellyfish’s body. Their edges have all the important nerves that help jellyfish sense the temperature and touch. They also function as its hands.
To draw the first tentacle, start by sketching a single vertical wavy line extending from the edge of the jellyfish’s wavy bottom. Then, draw the parallel wavy line to the first one, and make sure they connect at the bottom.
Step 5 – Draw the Second Tentacle
A jellyfish’s body resembles a bag-like appearance with different tentacles at the bottom. So, all the steps will focus on drawing different kinds of tentacles.
In this step, you should draw the same kind of vertical wavy lines an inch away from the first one. To make it a bit different from the other, you could draw it longer than the initial tentacle.
By the way, if you think these tentacles are cute, you are wrong. These are the deadly weapons that paralyze the prey of jellyfish before this creature swallows them.
Step 6 – Draw the Third Tentacle
It is time to draw the third tentacle in this How to Draw a Jellyfish guide. To make it unique from others, you could change the pattern.
To do this, draw a straight line with small curves running through it. Make sure to draw it at the center of the jellyfish. If you prefer, you can make this tentacle the longest one among the five.
Step 7 – Draw the Fourth Tentacle
Are you enjoying your podcast? Because it’s time to add two more tentacles to complete our jellyfish drawing! Let’s pencil sketch the fourth tentacle as part of this How to Draw a Jellyfish for Kids guide.
For this, add the two wavy lines, parallel to each other and connected at the end. Make sure this tentacle is at a decent distance from the third one.
Step 8 – Draw the Fifth Tentacle
Finally, the last tentacle drawing is here. You can draw it at the edge of the jellyfish to occupy the complete space of the bell’s bottom. For an aesthetic look, draw it the smallest one among the five tentacles.
In case, you still have a lot of space due to the large size of your jellyfish drawing, you can draw some more tentacles too. If the body size is smaller for five tentacles, then you can opt for a smaller number too. It is totally up to you.
Step 9 – Jellyfish Drawing with Colors
For our jellyfish pencil drawing, we opted for different shades of rose color as you can see in our picture. You can do the same if you want.
However, if you prefer, you can use a variety of other colors as well. Jellyfish come in many different species, each displaying unique colors. Some species are in yellow, blue, pink, purple, red, tan, orange, light brown, white, violet, and many more.
Another specialty of jellyfish is that they can glow. So, you can check the reference picture of any glowing jellyfish and draw it with the help of shading and colors.
