How to Draw a Panda

Hi! Welcome to another drawing tutorial on Emily Drawing. Today, we are going to learn how to draw a panda!

Pandas are super cool animals that have some unique character traits. For example, pandas are great swimmers and even better tree climbers—they can even climb trees at just five years old! Additionally, pandas are famous for always eating; most often, they are snacking on bamboo. This is a critical element to their diet.

However, pandas face hardship for many reasons, one of which is environmental pressures and changes. Because of this, only about 1,800 pandas exist in the wild. If you’ve ever seen one in person, you’ll know how lovable, silly, and cute these guys are, so we should do everything we can to keep the species thriving.

So, with all that said, let’s get into our awesome ten-step drawing tutorial. Find some drawing supplies and let’s go! Happy drawing!

How to Draw a Panda — Let’s get started!

Step 1 – Draw the panda’s ears!

How to Draw a Panda - Step 1 – Draw the panda’s ears!

Let’s start at the top of the panda’s head to draw the ears. Near the top of the page, draw two semicircles connected by a short line in between. These are its ears. Make them a bit tilted to the right.

Step 2  – Draw the rest of the head.

How to Draw a Panda - Step 2  – Draw the rest of the head.

For this step, we are going to finish the outline of the head. Draw a big curved line connecting the ears. This should make the panda’s head look slightly oval. The panda’s head should take up about half of the page. Check out the photo!

Step 3 – Add the panda’s eyes.

Let’s draw the panda’s eyes next. Did you know that panda’s have relatively poor eyesight? This is because they often live in dark forests and other dim habitats, so very good eyesight isn’t necessary.

To draw the eyes, form two ovals near the middle of the head. Good job!

Step 4  – Draw the panda’s face!

Let’s add the panda’s nose and mouth next!

Centered underneath the eyes, draw a small upside down triangle and fill it in. This is the panda’s nose. In fact, the panda’s primary form of communication is through scent, especially since their eyesight isn’t so good.

Next, draw a semicircle right below the nose. This is the mouth that they use to eat all that bamboo all day!

Now we are done with the face and can move onto the rest of the body.

Step 5 – Add one arm of the panda.

Let’s start with adding the bear’s limbs! Underneath the head and to the left, draw a hooked curve to form the arm. Check out the photo!

Step 6 – Draw the other arm.

Next, let’s add another arm! Make the same shape but mirrored for the other arm. Good job!

Step 7Add one of its legs.

On the left side, underneath the arm, draw a long line that flattens out towards the bottom. This is the leg! Pandas have excellent hind leg mobility. Like many mammals, pandas have paws on their feet that help with traction.

Step 8 – Add the second leg.

Repeat the last step, but this time for the other leg. We are nearly done with the overall shape of the panda!

Step 9 – Draw the belly.

This is a very easy and quick step. Simply draw a short, slightly curved line to connect the legs. This makes it look like our panda has a belly!

Step 10 – Color in your panda!

Now it’s time for the final (but very fun) step—coloring in your drawing! Find some bright hues and have fun with adding some spunk to your drawing.

Of course, pandas are famous for their black and white coloring, but get some colors to fill in the background, too! Maybe they have some bamboo or other plants around them. Maybe you even name your panda!
