Hello, and welcome to another tutorial by Emily Drawing! Today’s tutorial is all about drawing the polar bear! We will take you through nine simple steps to draw this awesome animal.
Reindeer are four-legged animals that stand several feet tall at the shoulder. Male reindeer can grow up to 3.9 feet tall and weigh over 550 pounds, while female reindeer are about 3.5 feet tall and weigh between 150 and 260 pounds.
It’s time to get started on the tutorial for drawing a reindeer. So, grab your colored pencils or markers, and get ready to learn how to draw this member of the deer species.

How to Draw a Reindeer — Let’s get started!
Step 1 – Draw The Reindeer’s Head
Drawing the reindeer’s head is easy because it’s round. Fun fact: A reindeer’s nose is fully covered in hair to warm the cold air before it enters their lungs. They’re also the only deer species with this feature.
Step 2 – Draw The Backside
The next step is to draw the reindeer’s backside. Starting at the left-bottom side of the head, you’ll draw a short neck that connects to the back and back leg. When you draw the other side of the back leg, the line should only come up halfway. Finally, draw a line across the reindeer’s foot to represent the hoof.
Step 3 – Draw The Reindeer’s Belly and Second Back Leg
Draw a short line that curves outward to create the belly. Then, add the other back leg, which should look like it’s behind the belly and the first back leg. You want to add the line for the hoof as well. Did you know that reindeer have hair to the bottom of their feet? Their hairy feet help them grip snow, ice, mud, and frozen ground.
Step 4 – Draw The Reindeer’s Front Leg and Chest
Now, you’ll draw the reindeer’s first front leg and hoof. The front leg should be about the same length as the second back leg but in front of the belly. Next, you’ll add the chest by drawing a curve upward from the right side of the front leg to the reindeer’s head.
Step 5 – Draw The Reindeer’s Second Front Leg
The second front leg is easy to draw because you’re only drawing the knee. The reindeer is lifting this leg, so most of it is hidden behind the other front leg. Reindeer’s legs are very useful, as they help them walk, dig, scrape for food, and swim.
Step 6 – Draw The Reindeer’s Ears
The next step is to draw the reindeer’s ears, with an ear located on each side of the reindeer’s head. The ears are a round, triangle shape with the points facing downward and to the sides. Reindeers don’t have the best hearing, but fortunately, they mostly rely on their sense of smell.
Step 7 – Draw The Reindeer’s Antlers
Now, it’s time to draw the reindeer’s antlers. This is a great way to practice your straight and curved lines. Follow the drawing to create antlers with three curved areas. Did you know a male’s antlers can grow up to 51 inches long? Meanwhile, a female’s antlers can grow up to 20 inches.
Step 8 – Draw The Reindeer’s Face
The final step of the drawing tutorial is drawing the reindeer’s face. You’ll draw two dots for the eyes, a small, long oval for the nose, and a friendly smile. Speaking of the nose, their sense of smell helps them to recognize direction, identify danger, and find food.
Step 9 – Color In Your Drawing!
You’ve drawn your reindeer, and now, it’s time to color in your drawing! We’ve decided to color our reindeer gray because we wanted it to fit in with winter. The antlers are a light tan color, while the belly is white. The nose, tail, and hooves are all black. However, you can also color your reindeer’s nose red, as they have 25% more blood vessels in their noses than we have in ours. This helps to keep their noses warm. You can also color your reindeer to fit in with other seasons or locations, such as pure white for a domesticated reindeer. Be sure to color the background of your picture to create the scene you have in mind, from a winter holiday to a wild reindeer, also known as a caribou, in North America.

Interesting Facts About Reindeer
Reindeer’s coats range from dark brown to almost all white. As mentioned before, their color depends on the season and their location. During summer, their coat is shorter and darker. In addition to pure white, a domesticated reindeer can be nearly black or feature white facial markings.
Furthermore, a reindeer’s eyes change colors with the season. They’re blue in the winter but golden during summer. This happens when the pupils dilate to adapt to the Arctic’s low light conditions.
Did You Know?
- Reindeer live in the Arctic tundra, Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland’s damp forests, and Scandinavia.
- Reindeer are herbivores, preferring plants and fresh water. Their diet also changes with the season. During winter, they eat lichens and fungi. In summer, they eat grass, herbs, sedges, and shoots and leaves of trees and shrubs.
- Reindeer make a clicking sound when they walk, which is a foot tendon passing over a bone.
- The average lifespan of a reindeer is 15 years in the wild and 20 when domesticated.
