Hello, and welcome to our art tutorial. Today, we are going to learn how to draw an alien together!

Aliens are of course famous for many, many reasons. They’ve been in movies, books, stories, and some people say they’ve seen aliens in real life! Some famous aliens are are E.T. from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and the Martians from the War of the Worlds. There are many, many more examples! Do you believe in aliens?

Let’s learn a few more things about aliens. First off, they are often depcited as being aboard flying saucers. They are often shown as green or grey, but they have a lot of different appearances. It’s really up to our imagination! Although we often think of aliens as fictional, many people think that they really exist. In fact, scientists are always looking out for life in space. After all, space is massive, and we don’t know everything about it!

Let’s get started on the tutorial now! Find some drawing materials and keep reading for Step 1. As always, we will have pictures as part of the project and learn some more facts about aliens along the way.

How to Draw an Alien — Let’s get started!

Step 1 – Draw the flying saucer bubble.

How to Draw an Alien - Step 1 – Draw the flying saucer bubble.

Our alien is going to be flying in a saucer, often called a UFO (unidentified flying object).

Draw a large semicircle near the middle of the page. Make it big enough to draw a whole alien inside it!

Awesome start!

Step 2 – Draw the rest of the saucer.

We need to add the disc of the saucer. Draw a large curve underneath the semicricle. Draw another curve right above it to show perspective. It should look like it is flying!

Step 3 – Start drawing the alien.

Now we are going to draw the star of the show—the little alien! Inside the bubble of the saucer, draw a large circle for the alien’s head. Next, draw two arms by forming two curves. We’ll add to them in the next step.

Step 4 –  Draw the steering wheel.

We don’t really know how aliens control UFOs, but if they are anything like cars, they need something to steer it with. Let’s draw a steering wheel!

Centered between the arms, draw a curve that is the shape of a rainbow. Draw another curve below it. Next, draw two short lines for the top of the arms. Refer to the photo! It should look like the alien is gripping the steering wheel.

Step 5 – Draw the face of the alien.

Like we said, aliens can have different appearances! However, they are often shown with really big, mysterious eyes. Let’s add that now.

Draw two tilted ovals in the middle of the head. Next, draw a small smile! It should look kind of mysterious or mischievous.

Step 6 – Add more to the saucer.

Behind the alien, draw another curved line. This should basically add perspective and make it look more dimensional! Check out the photo.

Step 7 – Add antennae.

This is a fun step. Our little UFO is going to have antennae. Draw two slanted lines with a small circle on the top. These help sense the world around it!

Step 8 – Add more detail to the saucer.

Let’s add even more detail. On the rim of the saucer (underneath the alien) draw four little circles. These are little lights that flash in the dark, adding to the mystery!

Step 9 – Finish the saucer.

UFOs are often shown as moving objects that can land on Earth. As they get ready to land, they may have their lights on and flashing. We need to add more lights to the bottom of the UFO. Draw three small U shapes beneath the rim of the saucer.

Step 10 – Color in your drawing!

Time to color in your alien! Like we said—there are no rules. Aliens can have many different appearances!

As always, fill in the background too! Is your alien landing on earth, flying through the night sky, or hovering above a city? Be creative and have fun—there are no wrong answers!
