Hello, and welcome to another tutorial by Emily Drawing! For today’s tutorial, you will learn how to draw an arctic fox! This tutorial will take you through nine simple steps to draw this cute animal.
Arctic foxes are short creatures, with adorable little ears, muzzles, and legs. They have thick fur for cold climates, and the fox uses its tail to keep warm in freezing temperatures. It’s well-insulated and becomes a blanket when foxes are curled up. All they have to do is place their head and legs under their body; under their tail.
Furthermore, these foxes can change their fur color to blend in with the current season and maintain their body temperature. For example, an arctic fox is white in winter and brown or gray in summer.
What a fascinating creature! Now, it’s time to get to the tutorial. Grab your colored pencils or markers, and get ready to learn how to draw this little animal.

How to Draw an Arctic Fox — Let’s get started!
Step 1 – Draw the top of the Arctic Fox’s head.
We’re going to start with the top of the Arctic fox’s head, which includes some fur sticking out from each side. Remember, an Arctic fox’s fur is well-insulated, so this side fur is sure to keep its head and face warm during those colder months. With several curved lines, it’ll be easy to draw this animal’s head. Leave the bottom of the head open to connect the fox’s body.
Step 2 – Draw one side of the Arctic Fox’s body.
You’re going to start with one side of the fox’s body, so you can get a feel for its shape. The fox is going to be sitting up, similar to a cat or dog, and if you’ve drawn those animals before, you can certainly draw this fox. Start on the left side of the opening and use simple lines to draw the leg and foot, with the foot facing to the left.
Step 3 – Complete the Arctic Fox’s body.
This step is pretty easy, as you’re just going to repeat the previous step for the right side of the fox’s body, with this foot facing to the right. Then, draw a tiny curve between the fox’s feet to represent their stomach, which is usually seen when foxes and similar animals are in a sitting position. Easy peasy! By the way, an arctic fox’s paws are covered in dense fur during the winter season to keep their feet warm.
Step 4 – Draw the Arctic Fox’s back legs.
Next, you’re going to draw the arctic fox’s back legs. Each leg features a curve to represent the fox’s knees, with a smaller curve on the bottom as the paws. The drawing only features the knees and feet because the legs are peeking out from behind its body. Its knees are bent because the fox is in a sitting position.
Step 5 – Draw the Arctic Fox’s ears.
Did you know arctic foxes can move their short, wide ears one at a time? While this is a cute action, it also allows them to pinpoint a specific sound, such as their prey or a predator. Their ears are small, round, and curled back. Once you draw their ears on the top of their head, you’ll add a small line to each one to detail the inside and outside.
Step 6 – Draw the Arctic Fox’s tail.
Drawing the tail is pretty easy, as you’re just adding a curved shape to the side of the fox’s body, right above the knee. It should look like the tail is sticking out from the fox’s backside. A real arctic fox’s tail is about 12 inches long, so when paired with the thick fur, it’s no wonder why it keeps its small body warm. Plus, the tail helps the fox maintain its balance when moving.
Step 7 – Draw the Arctic Fox’s head details.
The fox features two curved lines that run from the next to the head and down to the nose. This detail can be used to pinpoint the shape of the fox’s fur. When coloring the picture, you may want to use these details to create two slightly different tones, such as a dark gray body with a light gray face. This simple detail is very easy to draw and can make your fox look more lifelike.
Step 8 – Draw the Arctic Fox’s face.
Finally, you’re going to draw the arctic fox’s face, which is a simple but important step. The face includes two dots for the eyes, a nose that looks like a curved, upside-down triangle, and two little curves for the mouth. For this tutorial, I decided to give the Arctic fox a cute, smiling face. This way, the drawing page appeals to all ages.
Step 9 – Color In Your Drawing!
Now, here comes a step that is almost as fun as drawing the Arctic fox. You’re going to color in your drawing. Of course, the colors you choose depend on the season you choose for your picture. Are you going to draw a white fur coat to fit the fall and upcoming winter season? Maybe you want to use brown or gray to create a summer-inspired drawing. You can also choose your own color scheme. Don’t forget to color in the background!
